In a train there must always be a possibility to make announcements to passengers. The on-board announcements can be made by the driver or the train guard, and they usually are related to safety or other important information that needs to be announced to all passengers without delay.
In other words, on-board public announcements/address (PA) must be considered as a safety critical function.
Therefore it is vital that a PA solution is a separate, isolated system due to safety requirements. It also means that a PA solution must not be only one-directional (driver/train-guard to passengers), it must also give passengers the possibility to talk in emergency situations with the driver or train guard. Different, easy-to-use two-way handsets have been developed especially for trains and this use..
Because of the safety related functions, the usage of the PA systems has to be designed in such a way that it will always work (power outage, darkness etc.). Another important aspect are the speakers; all passengers needs to hear what is being announced!
The PA solution should support pre-recorded messages, automatic announcements and manual announcements. If the train configuration changes (coaches are being added or taken away), the solution must support reconfiguration of the train composition. Also the solution should support on which side of the train external announcements can be made. A well designed PA solution usually consists of the following items:
PA Controller box
Driver/Train Guard communication unit
Passenger Emergency Intercom
Train bus (CAN)
Every train is different, and this is also true for the PA solution. Contact us in order to design a PA solution which will be optimal for your new or older trains.
